![]() The sustain is really good, which is what mahogany bodies are for. The slightly short scale (24-5/8”) gives it a bit more balls, too, and makes it a hair easier to play than a Gibson-scale. Razor-sharp attack, and incredible sustain for soloing. The EMG-81 humbucker bridge pickup is a high-output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist, at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet-loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy low end and a fatter top end, which gives a more natural tone, so it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn't muddy. The EMG-85 humbucker neck pickup has more measurable output than the 81 (!), but its frequency response and string interface are different. They are never muddy and always have good note articulation, even with lots of gain. However, these EMG pickups sound really good, and nobody is more surprised to hear me say that than me. Hot pickups, like these, drive a tube amp to break up more quickly, which gives it a really high-gain sound. It sounds great amplified, too, and I ain’t an active-pickup guy. It sounds loud and woody, very enjoyable to play unplugged. I didn’t expect the guitar to have so much natural resonance, but it definitely does. ![]() Sound: The mahogany body gives this girl a sound like a Les Paul on steroids, but the satin-finished maple neck and EBONY fretboard keep it focused. You'll instantly know you are holding a fine guitar. I thought this model would be kind of garish from the photos, but it is a beauty. ![]() Balls like you wouldn’t believe! The guitar, I mean. Wylde Audio guitars are what Zakk plays, and if you want his sound, you’d best have one of his guitars. This is the Odin line, Redrum Bullseye model ( remember, King fans, Murder spelled backwards), single cutaway. ( And dig, this is the most conservative shape in their lineup). Zakk’s stuff does not look like anybody else’s, and this one is Zakk’s dark take on a Les Paul… single cutaway but radically updated with active EMG humbuckers and a treble horn you either love or hate. Wylde Audio is the new guitar company launched by Zakk Wylde ( Ozzy, Pride and Glory, Black Label Society, etc.) with the goal of creating modern metal guitars that are not just copies of other guitars except with hotter pickups and a thinner neck. ![]() ![]() Message us for International shipping cost!įinally, a metal machine for those who want, um, a single-cutaway style guitar instead of a flippin’ superstrat and don’t want no Floyd Rose. ![]()
